Wah pedals are a personal thing to me and over the course of a few decades of playing, I’ve owned some great vintage wahs and some not-so-good vintage wahs along the way. As a direct result of my journey in designing a great vintage style wah has lead me to today to develop my Supa Quack wah w/Vocalizer EQ Spectrum.
Wah is so very influential to me, it’s an extension of my musical expression rhythmically and harmonically, much like my guitar heroes.
Jimi Hendrix on the “Band of Gypsys” record, great Motown players like ‘Wah Wah’ Watson on “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and Dennis Coffey who brought the psychedelic era into Motown and played and produced too many records to mention…
From Curtis Mayfield’s chordal and bubbly wah-filled lines throughout his records in the early to mid 1970s that had such great vocal quality to add just the right vibe to his dark, political statements in his music, right down to one of the great, unheralded Rock/R&B guitarists in my opinion…Rod Richards of Rare Earth! His fuzz and wah-laden guitar work on Rare Earth’s cover of “(I Know) I’m Losing You” is so amazing to me, even down to the breaks where you can hear that his wah pot is scratchy! So amazing.
That’s what this wah means to me as I came up with the best inductor for my Vocalizer EQ Spectrum mod wah circuit to capture those wah tones that moved me so much. Work the treadle slow, low to high, and there is all this harmonic richness in it…in between the notes filtering, phasing, vocal goodness…the more you play it, the better it gets. Work it fast and it quacks even and the filter just keeps getting better and better.

Hand-built, one at a time…the old school funky way using the finest parts. NOS Clarostat/Hot Pots1 that is the finest taper for this wah, heavy duty Alpha true bypass switch, metal Switchcraft jacks, hand sourced and spec’d inductor to meet my filter Q specifics that took me months and months to accomplish, NOS tropical fish capacitors, the Vocalizer EQ Spectrum and my tuning…
