Keeley Electronics That Pedal Show's D&M Drive
If you're into pedals—as in, REALLY into pedals, the names Daniel Steinhardt and Mick Taylor likely need no introduction. As co-hosts of That Pedal Show, these guys have been around the same block you have, only many, many more times. They've played a lot of pedals.
This is why the D&M Drive, from Keeley Electronics, is such a no-brainer. Two consummate pros with a fine tonal pedigree co-designing the ultimate pedal? Yes please.
The hitch: what pedal might two guys design, if they have played every pedal? The answer lies within.
The D&M Drive is a finely-tuned boost and overdrive combo that's designed to be tops in their respective classes. The Boost sits first in the bath and offers a high-voltage, dripping-with-headroom gain stage that walks the line between whistle-clean boost and germanium-equipped overdrive. The Boost circuit works perfectly with any amp and guitar, and contains enough mid push and sustain to melt even the hardiest amps.
The Drive side utilizes a slew of cascading gain stages that begins a couple steps past where the Boost leaves off, with tones from mild chunk to hard-hitting red-glowing tubes. This side of the pedal also contains a crazy amount of headroom and can tango with any other pedal you have in your arsenal while still coming out on top.
Because Daniel is also part of the GigRig, he expects more from the switching configuration of a standard pedal. You can use the toggle on the face of the box to change the effect order. This is where the crazy high headroom of both sides comes in—now you can punish either side with the other without having to worry about sputtering or nonmusical distortion—any configuration sounds like a million bucks!
The D&M Drive also utilizes TRS insert jacks so that you can integrate the pedal into any pro switching system you choose, and call upon either side of the D&M at will. C'est magnifique!
