You may note that the Keeley Electronics 1962 is black and gold. That's no coincidence. The 1962 espouses the tone of the original Blues Breaker amps bearing the same year stamp as this pedal. That said, you can expect the best Blues Breaker tones from 1962. One thing you may not expect, however, is that the Blues Breaker is actually the meat of the pedal rather than the whole package.
If you've played a Blues Breaker, you know to expect creamy low-gain overdrive tones that sound good into any amp from any country. Unlike previous incarnations of the venerable circuit, however, Keeley auditioned several low-noise op-amps for the 1962 and chose the one with the best tone-to-noise ratio. Fenders and Voxes can make the most of the 1962 with ease; it isn't a Marshall-only party.
That said, the Blues Breaker circuit in the 1962 is sandwiched by the front and back of the Keeley Katana. Robert Keeley bisected the circuit and gently cradled the Blues Breaker in warm JFET preamp tone. The result is a pleasing sound of a boosted amp without all the noisy artifacts that usually sully combinations like this. It's all tone, all the time!
