Gibson's Artist in Residence James A. Willis has created numerous works of guitar art for the Gibson Custom Shop. The Warhorse guitar is one of Mr. Willis' finest creations. Inspired by his Southern roots and folk art created by Revolutionary War soldiers, the Warhorse features hand-carved woodwork, custom-cut and scrimshawed hardware, and rustic finish work evoking the imagery of one of the most significant events in American history. In order to capture the look and feel of the muskets of the era, the guitar is purposefully rough, constructed using period-appropriate materials and eschewing modern tools and complex finish techniques. The resulting guitar is a singular piece of art that can never be duplicated. Each James A. Willis guitar is a single run, one-of-a-kind instrument.
