Tonal Evaluation
This Daphne Blue beast is one of the most inspiring Stratocasters I've ever played. Like almost every other guitar player in existence, I love Hendrix, and Greg Fessler has managed to craft a guitar that Jimi himself probably would have loved. It certainly embodies many of the cornerstones of his sound: warm, deep bass, upper-midrange quack, and treble sparkle abound in all pickup positions. The neck pickup is fat and warm, with a surprisingly lush high-end. The middle position has plenty of warm, woody low-midrange, and a very vocal upper-midrange that cries and wails like an old bluesman. The bridge pickup is as glossy and shimmery as a polished moonstone, and it has plenty of rock and roll bite if you play hard. All in all, this Strat will make any Hendrix fan the happiest guitar picker in the world, but anyone who remotely enjoys the sound of a Fender Stratocaster will love this serial.
About the Builder
Greg Fessler came to the Fender Custom Shop in 1990 and worked his way up through the ranks as an apprentice. He assisted with the Robben Ford signature line of guitars, eventually became the sole builder of those instruments, and finally wound up becoming the illustrious Mr. Ford’s own personal guitar-maker. Fessler has built one-off Stratocaster and Telecaster models for a host of players, including Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Healey, Hank Marvin, John Mayer, Rhonda Smith, Neil Schon and Pete Wentz. Fessler’s remarkable abilities have earned him accolades from many Fender artists and discerning customers worldwide, and every instrument he builds exemplifies the meticulous attention to detail and intense commitment it takes to earn the title of Master Builder.
