Tonal Evaluation
This Tylerbastar is one of those simple T-style guitars that can handle everything you throw at it. But, before we talk about versatility, we have to talk about RESONANCE (and yes, that word does need to be in all caps!). This guitar is startlingly loud when played unplugged, and that acoustic volume translates to thick, lush amplified tone. The bridge pickup has full response across the whole frequency spectrum, but it has a distinctly Nocaster-like bark in the midrange. It reminds me quite a bit of Jimmy Page's Tele tone on the first four Zeppelin records. The neck pickup is brighter, and it has an almost Strat-like quack and chime in the top-end to go with its tight, articulate bass response. With those two tones on tap, I feel like I could make it through any gig with just this guitar. The bridge position can handle just about all of your fat rock sounds, and the neck pickup can handle all of your bright single-coil sounds. Through judicious use of the volume knob and the tone knob, you can cop all the mellow, warm sounds you might need. This James Tyler may look like a simple T-Style guitar, looks are deceiving: it can do just about everything!
