Uranograph from Clank is a daring and unique desktop synthesizer that seamlessly integrates a responsive touch interface, vast additive sound engine, and looper to provide a wealth of expressive potential. Featuring two capacitive keyboards which straddle a central network of knob controls, Uranograph offers intuitive and nuanced control over its entire feature set. With one set of keys for note actuation and pitch control and another for live adjustment of articulation, modulation, and transposition, giving the user a highly dynamic interface which evokes the expressive depth of acoustic instruments. Made with microtonal music in mind, its individual note keys may be tuned freely and saved as a keyboard layout, with over fifty pre-made layouts for instant exploration of unique tuning systems.

 

Beneath its alien surface, Uranograph generates its expansive tonal palette from a unique blend of additive synthesis and digital audio processing. A core sine wave oscillator can be expanded into wildly rich timbres with multiple classic west-coast techniques like FM, AM, and wavefolding, while phase distortion and spectral expansion invokes a serrated digital edge. These tones can then be split in three by the harmonizing Alias effect, creating chord-like voicings on each singular note. Add weight and depth with the onboard sub-oscillator, and employ the dedicated modulation oscillator as an additional timbre shaping tool or extra voice in Uranograph's esoteric chorus of tones. Finally, sounds are shaped into notes with distinctly organic presence thanks to the integrated VCA and low pass gate, adding anything from resonant warmth or raucous self-oscillation.

 

Designed for captivating instrumental performance all on its own, Uranograph is equipped with space-grade effects that take its sound generators to new heights. A stereo delay seamlessly blends between ultra-fast timbral resonance and strict tempo synchronization, moving between skronk-forward squelches and rhythmic undulation in an instant. Reverb on a single knob spans between subtle enhancement and air-melting, ethereal environments, adding a rich depth to your sound in any setting. All of this capable sound engine is then fed into a double-reel tape-inspired looper, enabling the performer to layer sounds into otherworldly textural masses, polyrhythmic loops, and more. With its onboard, premium external input, you can also process external sounds through Uranograph, promising endless possibilities with creative studio patching.
