And it does so without compromise, delivering over +27dBu of headroom, greater than 114dB dynamic range, and ultra-low distortion of less than 0.008%. Moreover, it draws less than 100mA RMS while maintaining optimal headroom and transient response. Audio engineers at Sweetwater Studios were stoked to learn just how much full-featured functionality Neve packed into the 88R LBC. To start, Auto Makeup Gain intelligently compensates the output level as you increase compression, offering a one-knob compressor workflow while preserving the gain structure and saving time. Additionally, you can link multiple 88R LBC modules via a simple switch to form compression groups within a compatible 500 Series chassis, using the technology directly from the 88RS console’s VCA bus-linking design. Each module retains independent controls while sharing a common sidechain, enabling natural, cohesive group compression with individual fine-tuning for each source. Next, the 88R LBC’s variable sidechain highpass filter enables you to bend the compressor’s response to your will, preventing over-compression and focusing on the frequencies you want to enhance. Finally, you get dual-circuit Adaptive Attack and triple-time-constant Auto Release, enabling the module to automatically respond to transients while maintaining the character of your recordings.
