The Radial HotShot MD provides this level of control through its three output paths. The A output serves as your main signal, sent to the front-of-house engineer; meanwhile, the B and C outputs are activated using footswitches on the top of the unit. Pressing either footswitch instantly mutes the A signal and reroutes your mic to the selected output, allowing for private communication with performers, engineers, or crew. Releasing the switch immediately restores the signal to the A path without any interruption. For moments that require quick coordination with multiple parties, both footswitches can be engaged simultaneously, sending your signal to both B and C outputs while still muting the main mix. To ensure clean audio across all paths, both B and C channels include pin-1 ground lift switches to eliminate any ground loop hum. Best of all, the HotShot MD operates with a fully passive design, requiring no external power — something Sweetwater engineers especially value for its simplicity and reliability. The HotShot MD isn’t the only Radial product to feature noise-free switching, but those capabilities truly shine when combined with its three versatile output options. One of the most straightforward uses is as a dedicated communication device — by routing the B and C outputs to a monitor mixer, you can send your signal directly to other performers, stage managers, or any production crew you need to coordinate with in real time. Another practical application is using the HotShot MD as a “cough mute.” Leave the B or C channel unrouted, and pressing that footswitch will mute your mic signal completely, allowing you to cough, take a drink, or manage any unexpected noise onstage without involving the front-of-house engineer. For more complex setups, multiple HotShot MD units can be used together, enabling several vocalists, production coordinators, or crew members to maintain direct and private communication across different parts of the stage or venue.
