Included S4 modules

S4 is semi-modular, enabling you to configure a control surface with up to three Channel Strip Modules (for 8, 16, or 24 faders, depending on configuration), four Display Modules, and up to three optional modules for your workflow needs. Core components that come with all Avid S4 configurations include the S4 Frame, Master Touch Module, Channel Strip Module, and Automation Module. The fully integrated Channel Strip Module and preassembled frame streamline configuration and setup, so you'll be up and running quickly.

• S4 Frame: Preassembled frame layout for your control surface, available in 3-, 4-, or 5-foot widths to accommodate configurations of up to three Channel Strip Modules
• Channel Strip Module: Lets you control track levels, plug-ins, and other parameters via eight channel faders, 32 top-lit knobs (four per channel), and additional keys and switches
• Master Touch Module: Gives you quick access to your mix and control parameters through a tilting 12.1-inch multipoint touchscreen, plus eight adjacent rotary encoders and other dedicated knobs and keys
• Automation Module lets you navigate and automate projects efficiently with a full transport control section that includes a shuttle/jog wheel, a focus fader, automation control, a numeric keypad, and additional keys and switches

Customize your surface with optional modules

You can add up to four displays and up to three additional modules to your S4 setup, including Display, Joystick, and Attention Knob Modules, as well as a Post Module with two rows of ten PEC/Direct paddles that enable seamless playback/input toggling to ensure they sound identical before you punch in to record. To fully customize your S4 surface for post production, you can also add dual joysticks and additional assignable knob controls to optimize it for re-recording workflows in surround and immersive formats.

S4 is powered by EuCon, a high-speed control protocol developed by Avid that enables deep hardware/software integration with Pro Tools, Nuendo, Pyramix, Logic Pro, Cubase, and other audio software over Ethernet at 250 times the speed and eight times the resolution of MIDI. EuCon automatically detects whatever application is in the foreground and instantly sets the high-resolution touchscreen and displays, motorized faders, and arsenal of controls to match. With S4, you can even mix tracks from two different DAWs simultaneously.
