The Inspiring Artisan Buckeye Double EsquireWow! For Tele Thinline aficionados, it doesn’t get any better than this. Fender’s elite Custom Shop luthiers went all out in handcrafting the Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS, and it shows in every inch of its masterful construction. It all starts with the finest hand-selected materials. Open the deluxe hardshell case, and you’re treated to a symphony of mouth-watering tonewoods: a gloriously figured buckeye burl top with a brown shell “Caballo Tono” pickguard and a lone F-hole on a fully chambered roasted pine body. The 3A roasted birdseye maple neck sports a comfortable ’60s “Oval C” profile and a round-lam rosewood fingerboard with 21 narrow tall frets and a modern 9.5-inch radius so you can bend up high without fretting out. In the electronics department, you have two hand-wound loaded Nocaster pickups and Fat ’50s wiring that deliver legendary tone with transparent bloom. You’ll find playing the Fender Custom Shop Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS to be a dream come true: the playability is flawless and every note rings out with lively resonance and sustain. The Fender Custom Shop Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS is one of a kind, so you’d better grab yours while you can! Impeccable tonewoodsThe Fender Custom Shop Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS sports a lightweight, fully chambered pine body. Why pine? Historically, Fender did indeed use the tonewood for the bodies of their instruments before they settled on ash, and finally alder. And pine does sound different, with its own unique brand of sonic punch and complexity. But Fender takes it a step further with their proprietary roasting process, which removes moisture from the wood, strengthening it while reducing weight and and making the body more impervious to changes in temperature and humidity. For the ideal combination of resonance and sustain, this guitar features modified Thinline Tele construction, with the pine being routed out on both sides, leaving only a “center block” into which the bridge is secured. Then the top is added — in this case, one crafted from premium buckeye burl. 3A roasted birdseye maple neckWhy would you want a roasted neck on your guitar? Stability, comfort — and tone. The Fender Custom Shop’s roasting procedure — a highly controlled high-heat drying process in a special kiln — removes almost all of the moisture from the wood and collapses the cell walls, which makes the neck much more insensitive to humidity and climatic changes. If you gig far and wide, you’ll appreciate this next time you play Miami after a week in Phoenix. As roasting removes moisture, it also removes weight, which makes for a more well-balanced instrument. Roasting also improves resonance and increases sustain. Together with the fully chambered, roasted pine body, the Fender Custom Shop Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS is a delightfully featherweight instrument that’s an absolute pleasure to play. Custom Shop hand-wound pickupsThe discerning guitarists at Sweetwater know that to get a real vintage sound from a guitar, you need to start with great pickups — and the ones in the Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS were hand-wound by Fender Custom Shop artisans to serves up all the classic tones, and then some. You’ll love the iconic twang and bite of these pickups, along with master Volume and Tone controls and Fat ’50s Tele wiring that deliver the versatility you need to ace any live gig or recording session, be it country, blues, jazz, rock, or pop.
