The Fender Custom Shop Artisan Buckeye Double Esquire NOS sports a lightweight, fully chambered pine body. Why pine? Historically, Fender did indeed use the tonewood for the bodies of their instruments before they settled on ash, and finally alder. And pine does sound different, with its own unique brand of sonic punch and complexity. But Fender takes it a step further with their proprietary roasting process, which removes moisture from the wood, strengthening it while reducing weight and and making the body more impervious to changes in temperature and humidity. For the ideal combination of resonance and sustain, this guitar features modified Thinline Tele construction, with the pine being routed out on both sides, leaving only a “center block” into which the bridge is secured. Then the top is added — in this case, one crafted from premium buckeye burl.
