The Steve Vai Signature JEM has been a best seller for Ibanez and for us at Musician's Friend since if first launched over 30 years ago. Now, Steve Vai and Ibanez have developed a new signature guitar as an evolution of that original design. Three years in development, the result is the new Steve Vai Signature PIA (Paradise in Art).
Sculptured looks and a revised cutout
The PIA's more rounded contours make it extra comfortable for you to play, and give the guitar a more refined look. The new "Petal Grip" takes the edge off the old "Monkey Grip," and echoes Vai's ongoing interest in balance, reflecting both a stylized version of the traditional Yin/Yang symbol and the petals of a blooming flower.
A Fast Neck Profile
If you're looking to approach classic Steve Vai pyrotechnics, this slim, fast 5-piece maple/walnut will fit your hand and playing style. The rosewood fingerboard echoes the flower motif of the new grip with a beautiful inlay, featuring a multi-color, blossoming vine. With 24 jumbo stainless steel frets and Ibanez' Prestige fret edge treatment the playing experience is not just blazingly fast, but smooth as satin.
New Signature pickups from DiMarzio
We know that tone can be the ultimate decision point for a guitar and the new DiMarzio UtoPIA pickups definitely have it. Over multiple, rigorous sonic testing sessions, Vai tweaked the voicing of both the bridge and neck humbuckers and the middle single-coil pickup to precisely reflect the tone and response he was after. The final tonal touch is push/pull high-pass tone filter serves that greatly expands your tonal options. Intricately filigreed pickup covers bring a extra, sophisticated vibe to the guitar.
Whammy to your heart's delight
Vai's style has always relied on a well-balanced tremolo system. When designing the PIA he specified the gold-finished, version of Ibanez' Edge locking tremolo system and a locking nut for serious tuning stability, so you need not fear getting extreme with your "whang bar."If you're inclined to adventurous, technically oriented playing, the Ibanez Steve Vai Signature PIA is an ideal instrument.
