Since he plays in a band as diverse as The Roots, guitar maestro "Captain" Kirk Douglas needs a versatile guitar. The Gibson Kirk Douglas SG was born out of a collaboration between Kirk and Gibson to design a guitar that would fit his needs. This hot-rodded SG sports a trio of Burstbucker pickups (with a stealth blender pot for the middle pickup with a push-pull coil split); a Lyre tailpiece for bends, dips, and warbling; and dual push-pull tone pots that deliver smooth single-coil tones. A trio of Burstbuckers give you classic PAF tone and versatility
The pickups in the Kirk Douglas SG are as true to the sound of the original 1960s models as it gets. That's because Gibson originally engineered their Burstbucker humbuckers to capture the warmth, smooth playing dynamics, and overall character of their breakthrough PAFs. However, unlike most SGs on the market, the Kirk Douglas SG features a third Burstbucker in the middle position. This third humbucker provides an additional range of tone, allowing you to blend and combine the sound of your pickups in distinct configurations.




The next step in the SG legacy
The first SGs were actually going to be called Les Pauls, until Les Paul himself objected. So, they just shortened Solid Guitar to SG, and the rest is history. As it turned out, many guitarists enjoyed the slightly ruder and more aggressive edge the SG had to offer, and the decreased weight certainly didn't hurt.
