The BIGSBY Pedal is a revolutionary polyphonic pitch shifter that specializes in reproducing the string bending and vibrato effects produced by the BIGSBY Tremolo arm and other traditional tremolo systems.
The idea to create a BIGSBY-style pitch shifting pedal was born out of a long-standing admiration for the Bigsby system’s unique feel, sound and design. In 2019 we approached Fender Specialty Brands and BIGSBY with this idea and were able to secure a partnership deal for the development of the BIGSBY Pedal. Now, after a two year-long design and development period we are proud to announce the final product, which in our personal opinion is one of the most capable and inspiring pitch-shifting tools currently on the market.
The BIGSBY Pedal’s central design element is a sturdy spring-loaded foot controller that allows for immediate and nuanced pitch-bends in both directions. We have designed a full set of custom-molded metal parts, and have paid extra care and attention to every element of the foot-controller’s mechanical design, in order to preserve the Feel and Responsivity of the original BIGSBY System. The BIGSBY Pedal also boasts a proprietary pitch-shifting algorithm, fueled by an extremely powerful state-of-the-art DSP chip. The algorithm was primarily designed to produce great-sounding pitch bends in the lower interval range – in most cases indistinguishable from the original BIGSBY System.
However, the BIGSBY Pedal’s algorithm also excels with larger intervals, suh as Whammy-style octave squeals and dirty divebombs. The pedal’s range can be adjusted from a quarter-tone up to a full octave and you can set up different intervals for both downward and upward bends. The Pedal’s pitch-shift direction can also be quickly inverted with a dedicated INVERT switch on the pedal’s back panel.
One BIGSBY for all instruments: The BIGSBY Pedal lets you incorporate the signature Surfy chord bends and smooth vibrato effects into any rig, regardless of what type of guitar (or other instrument) you use, without having to face any tuning or hardware-related issues. At the same time, there is nothing stopping you if you want to use the BIGSBY Pedal together with a guitar that’s already equipped with a traditional tremolo system.
New levels of expressivity: The beauty of the BIGSBY Pedal’s Unique foot controller design is that it lets you perform a variety of nuanced pitch bends and accents without taking your picking hand off the strings. The pedal does not require a dedicated on/off switch – simply apply pressure at any point during your performance for a subtle (or not so subtle) momentary pitch-bend. This makes the BIGSBY Pedal an extremely powerful tool in the hands of any performance-oriented player, looking for ways to animate their solos or incorporate slide and lap-steel licks into their playing.
More than a BIGSBY: The BIGSBY Pedal was primarily designed to produce great-sounding pitch bends in the lower interval range – in most cases indistinguishable from the Original BIGSBY System. However, there are many ways of taking the BIGSBY Pedal into totally wild and experimental territory – for example by increasing the pitch-bend range up to an octave and stomping on the foot-controller mid-solo. By maxing out the RATE and DETUNE parameters you can set up super fast and wild oscillations and create total chaos! The DRY MIX knob lets you use the BIGSBY Pedal as a harmonizer effect, and you can also create a variety of momentary chorus effects by putting the pedal in Auto mode (via RATE knob).
ADDITIONAL FEATURES: EXP OUT jack allows you to use the spring-loaded foot controller to modulate any expression parameters of other pedals – with fully adjustable depth controls and completely independent from the pitch shifting algorithm.
FSW IN jack is compatible with any standard guitar on/off footswitch and allows you to toggle between two sets of settings (favorite mode / alt mode), thus making it easier to switch between settings on stage, as well as allowing you to save a particularly sweet sound.
MIDI IN (3.5mm jack) that allows you to control all aspects of the pitch-shift algorithm via CC messages, including putting the pedal into Latching mode, creating and saving presets and syncing the RATE Parameter to a specific tempo (with various subdivisions).
