Developed with celebrated drum educator and clinician Mike Johnston, this Gretsch Brooklyn Standard snare drum is extremely versatile in every way. Mike insisted that the snare have the widest possible dynamic range, excel in all playing situations and sound great across a wide variety of tunings. Gretsch embraced his challenge, and after 9 months of prototyping, feedback and evaluation, the Brooklyn Standard was born. Every specification of this snare drum is purposeful in the way it affects sound, dynamics and playability. The combination of a 14x5.5" Brooklyn formula maple/poplar shell, double 45-degree bearing edges, batter side tone control, 42-strand snare wires and 302 hoops make this drum a must-have for any serious snare collection. And in keeping with Mike's dedication to teaching drums to players at all levels, this snare is also perfect for beginners who are ready to purchase their very first pro-level drum.The drum is finished in Satin Black Metallic with a Silver Sealer interior, then accented with Gretsch tube lugs, Lightning throw-off and Gretsch Permatone heads by Remo USA. An inside identification label specifies the year of production and is signed by Mike Johnston.
