Tonal Evaluation
Fender may not have made any Thinline Telecasters in 1952, but this fantastic Fessler-designed beauty is proof that they should have! The resonant ash body weighs in at 6.06 pounds, and it has fifties-esque midrange emphasis with superb brilliance in the trebles. First things first: wow, do these Handwound Twisted Tele pickups ever sound great in a Thinline body! The neck pickup uses warm low-midrange as a foundation for its delightfully responsive, horn-like upper midrange, and its airy trebles help it sound warm yet open. Very few bridge pickups sound prettier than this one, too. It has big, raunchy bass response and a glorious glossy high-end, and it is extremely touch-sensitive. It can sound very sweet and round when you lighten up your attack, or it can launch you off into wonderful world of mean rock tones if you play hard. Like many of Mr Fessler's phenomenal guit-fiddles, this guitar has an expressive, emotive midrange that pulls all sorts of new ideas out of the player. I can only speak for myself, but I came up with one rock riff, one chicken pickin' riff, and one cool set of jazzy chords while playing this guitar for ten minutes. I think anyone who enjoys Telecasters will find this serial just as inspiring as I do! Meet the Man Behind the Tone Greg Fessler came to the Fender Custom Shop in 1990 and worked his way up through the ranks as an apprentice. He assisted with the Robben Ford signature line of guitars, eventually became the sole builder of those instruments, and finally wound up becoming Ford’s personal guitar-maker. Fessler has built one-off Stratocaster and Telecaster models for a host of players, including Joe Bonnamasa, Jeff Healey, Hank Marvin, John Mayer, Rhonda Smith, Neil Schon and Pete Wentz. Fessler’s remarkable abilities have earned him accolades from many Fender artists and discerning customers worldwide, and every instrument he builds exemplifies the meticulous attention to detail and intense commitment it takes to earn the title of Master Builder.
