The Effectrode Blackbird is a two channel, tube preamp in a pedal. The clean channel is a faithful reproduction of Leo Fender’s classic "Blackface" circuit, with all of the warm, glassy sound the legend promises. The overdrive channel is a modified 4-stage Dumble/Soldano style circuit that gives you an extraordinary range of texture from rich blues tones, to crunchy classic rock distortion, to harmonically-saturated, metallic mayhem. Each channel has its own set of dedicated controls for Volume, Bass, Middle, and Treble, with all the interactive tone-shaping flexibility of a classic tone stack. The Overdrive channel has an additional knob for Gain control and can be further modified by swapping out the tubes with 12AU7, 12AY7 or 12AX7 tubes for a different tonal signature, using the 3-way toggle to select one of three bias operating points, and fine tuning the internal trim pot. The Classic/Creamy toggle offers an option of classic asymmetrical clipping for robust 70s rock overdrive or creamy symmetrical clipping for that saturated metal distortion. And the Open/Closed toggle selects different responses for the speaker sim. output, from the airier open-backed sound of a Twin to the tighter, bass-rich sound of a closed Marshall 4x12. The Effectrode Blackbird Tube Preamp is wired for true bypass and noiseless switching, and operates on a 12vDC power supply only.
