Greg Fessler came to the Fender Custom Shop in 1990 and worked his way up through the ranks as an apprentice. He assisted with the Robben Ford signature line of guitars, eventually became the sole builder of those instruments, and finally wound up becoming Ford’s personal guitar-maker. Fessler has built one-off Stratocaster and Telecaster models for a host of players, including Joe Bonnamasa, Jeff Healey, Hank Marvin, John Mayer, Rhonda Smith, Neil Schon and Pete Wentz. Fessler’s remarkable abilities have earned him accolades from many Fender artists and discerning customers worldwide, and every instrument he builds exemplifies the meticulous attention to detail and intense commitment it takes to earn the title of Master Builder.
Tonal Evaluation This guitar might be Fiesta Red, but make no mistake: this ain't no party, this ain't no disco, and this Tele is not fooling around! This serial is a very dry, crisp-sounding guitar with exceptional string-to-string balance and two very differently-voiced pickups. The bridge position is aggressive, but there's less note bloom and more fundamental in the trebles than most Telecasters, so it's transparent without losing that signature Tele bite. That clarity and this serial's innate evenness make the bridge pickup a country picker's dream! The neck pickup is quite dark for a Tele, and it made jazzy stuff sound so good that I had to dust off an old Les Paul/Mary Ford tune! Again, this guitar's clear, even voice allows the player to hear every note of every fancy jazz chord even with the tone knob rolled off--a truly remarkable feat! Through a dirty amp, all sorts of beautiful even-order harmonics pop out of the speaker cone, so you can get some really great rock tones, too! Anyone seeking a Tele that can cover all the bases should check this serial out!
