This time, it’s the high-powered Twin Tweed that comes under the microscope, and the results are nothing short of astounding.
The Big Tweedy is based on the high-powered Twin Tweed amps produced between 1957 and 1960—a distinct sound of American amp ephemera. The sound was big, brawny and mid-rangey, delivering a raw breakup tone that was achieved easily. Perhaps most importantly, tweed amps broke up so easily that players could often drive them just by playing harder.
In keeping with tradition, the Big Tweedy delivers all this and more, without having to lug a tweed amp everywhere. The Presence knob delivers the midrange content that you’ve come to know and love from tweed amps, and the whole thing overdrives at the slightest hint of pick attack—excellent for articulate players whose sounds are derived from dynamics.
The Big Tweedy works with your guitar’s volume knob and the Drive tone to set the gain so that your own harder picking will send the Tweedy straight into overdrive heaven while maintaining the tonal punch you’ve come to expect from a real tweed.
