Back in the day of Russian imports, Electro-Harmonix, in conjunction with Sovtek, released four different iterations of the Russian Big Muff (and many more finishes). The third of these—the tall font green/bubble font green V1—is considered the greatest symbiote of both value and sound. This iteration of green Russian Big Muffs will set you back quite a chunk indeed.
Enter: the Green Vodka from McCaffrey Audio. This finely-tuned Russian beast contains everything you could want from the original circuit, and nothing you don’t.
Ever played a Muff-style circuit at home, and it sounded killer, but mysteriously vanished once at practice? Yeah, McCaffrey also noticed. That’s why the Green Vodka comes equipped with two switches that alter the frequencies within the circuit.
The Beef switch alters the bass and mids response for true doom and sludge droning ability, and a Pass switch, which takes your tone’s face off the milk carton and puts it back in the mix where it belongs. Never fear of being drowned out by the rest of the band again.
Of course, all the classic green Russian sounds are present—a biting, yet smooth tone that’s equal parts lead, rhythm, sustain and stomach-rumbling fierceness.
