Alexander Pedals Equilibrium DLX Tremolo
This updated version of Alexander’s original Equilibrium pedal adds a boatload more features while still keeping the size at a minimum. The upgrade features the same three modes but almost everything else is different—including the wave shapes: the foundation on which tremolo itself is built. The three modes are a trem lover’s paradise: [Bias] Tremolo, Harmonic and Vibrato, from back when “vibrato” meant something else entirely. These three modes cover the entirety of vintage trem sounds, putting the timeline squarely in trem’s origins. Tremolo mode is a classic bias trem, from the earliest amplifiers to have it. This sound is rich, tube-driven and unmistakably mojo-laden, back when tremolo was king and everyone needed to have it. Harmonic mode is the trem that everyone remembers from old piggyback amps of the ‘60s. The trem sound is much more pronounced and lopsided for the ultimate in seasick-esque trem tone. Vibrato mode recalls vintage ‘50s amps with “vibrato” circuits. This mode sounds like a cross between a photocell vibrato circuit and a primitive phase shifter. This is the sound of Fender brownface amps. Each mode is controlled by three global knobs: Rate, Mix, Depth and Shape. Rate and Depth are self-explanatory, but Mix controls the ratio between wet and dry signals, which really opens up the pedal. Turn it all the way up for time-tested trem and vary it in the middle for some subtle movement that you may never turn off. Shape changes between four different waveforms: sine, square, ramp up and ramp down. The Equilibrium DLX contains a tap circuit with two different footswitchable subdivisions. Tap the tempo into the Equilibrium DLX and use your foot to change the subdivision to really change things up at your next jam session. A new tap tempo out jack works for players who don’t necessarily need the Equilibrium DLX front-and-center on a crowded board. A handy new Level control activates when the bypass switch is pressed and held. This lets players pre-set the output level to combat any perceived volume loss. The setting saves when the pedal is powered down.
