When the Phase 90 appeared on the scene, it took the effects world by storm, despite offering a single control: Speed. Today, the effects world is split down the middle with regards to compact phase shifters: Phase 90 or Small Stone? A curious rift, since both units offer the same knob: Speed. In over 40 years, "speed only" is still the word. Peter Rutter of VFE has a bone to pick with this course. The VFE Tractor Beam is the most full-featured compact phase shifter on the market, bar none. Four knobs and two toggle switches adorn the face of the unit, and don't worry—the Speed knob hasn't gone anywhere. The three other controls are Feed, Center and Mix. Feed is short for feedback, which feeds the output back into the input, resulting in a juicier, more resonant tone. Mix introduces your clean signal back into the mix for when you only want a subtle bit of phasing. The Center knob is interesting: it sets the range of the sweep; set it low for a bassy throb, set it at noon for a full sweep and crank it for a liquidy phase. The Stages toggle selects how many stages are in the circuit. 2 is a subtle warble, perfect for adding depth to a lead tone, 3 is a watery wobble—a most interesting tone, and 4 is the classic phase tone that most people associate with phasers. The Mode toggle is an interesting addition: with it, users can select three modes. P is the standard phase mode, V is a nifty vibrato and PV is both of them together! PV mode is an awesome sound, very musical and very sure to inspire.

TrueSoft Bypass Footswitch - True bypass relay with effect-side FET switch
Low Noise Op Amp - A modern, high-speed op amp was chosen for its low-noise and high-fidelity properties.
Extended Headroom - A simple voltage inverter circuit was used to effectively turn 9V into 18V. No need for special power supplies.
DualMode Switching - DualMode Switching can convert the footswitch into momentary operation. To use, wait 5 seconds, then press the sequence tap+tap+hold until LED flashes
USA Made PCBs - Our circuit boards are made in the USA by Advanced Circuits (large PCB runs) or OSH Park (small PCB runs).
