It is only fitting that VFE’s Merman features a three-pronged trident on the face, and the Klon features a knife-wielding centaur—the Merman is a much more formidable piece of weaponry.
The original Klon circuit—hardly a mystery anymore—has been given the VFE six-knob treatment. But what can VFE add to the Klon circuit that isn’t out there already?
As it turns out, plenty. Of course, the Drive, Volume and Treble knobs are present and accounted for, but we all know VFE can never leave well enough alone. Joining those three controls are three new ones: Warm, Comp and Bottom.
The Warm control controls the volume of the clean signal path in the mix, adding dynamics back into the drive path. The Comp control is interactive with the Drive control, and controls the amount of compression and harmonic saturation. Finally, the Bottom knob does just what it sounds like—it controls the volume of the bass frequencies.

TrueSoft Bypass Footswitch - True bypass relay with effect-side FET switch


Extended Headroom - A simple voltage inverter circuit was used to effectively turn 9V into 18V. No need for special power supplies.


DualMode Switching - DualMode Switching can convert the footswitch into momentary operation. To use, wait 5 seconds, then press the sequence tap+tap+hold until LED flashes


USA Made PCBs - Our circuit boards are made in the USA by Advanced Circuits (large PCB runs) or OSH Park (small PCB runs).


Variable HCC - allows you to fine tune the harmonics, compression, and clipping character of your tone.


Power Filtering - VFE used extra layers of noise filtering and shielding in the Merman to make this one quiet overdrive pedal.
