The Chase Bliss Tonal Recall Red Knob starts with the original Tonal Recall and addresses the original’s delay time: 550 milliseconds. The Red Knob Mod is packed with four (yes, FOUR) reproductions of the original MN3005 BBD chips, giving you a staggering 1100 milliseconds of beautiful analog delay.
Chase Bliss pedals all contain a bank of DIPswitches (16 of them) which allow players to control literally every facet of the pedal at once, if desired. By carefully manipulating these, you can morph from one distinct setting to another with just a single expression sweep. Now THAT’S control.
The new 1100ms delay range is divided into three modes: S[hort], L[ong] and B[oth].
Short mode is reminiscent of a time-tested slapback machine, now outfitted with near-infinite capabilities. Similarly, Long mode uses the full four chips, reminiscent of the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man on steroids, and is equipped with the same feature set (rich modulation). Both mode invokes both simultaneously for a pseudo-multi-tap experience.
Both presets and tap tempo are available—tap tempo has six different subdivisions from which to choose, and there are three presets, but when MIDI is thrown into the mix, the presets jump to a staggering 122.
A generous modulation circuit gives you Rate and Depth knobs, and its range extends beyond most normal modulation controls. The player can set each of these parameters to ramp, resulting in some striking modulation capabilities. Players seeking bursts of oscillation can hold the tap footswitch to ramp up the feedback and launch the repeats into orbit.
