The core of the TrueOverDrive 1 looks a lot like a real tube amp. Where most drive pedals utilize clipping diodes in order to wring distortion from a circuit, the TrueOverDrive 1 instead does it just like an amp does it—piles upon piles of gain stages that naturally compress just like—you guessed it—a red-hot preamp.
