One of the World's Most Popular Dreadnoughts
The Dove — originally released in the early 1960s — was designed to have a more powerful voice that worked well accompanying a singer. This Dove shares the same solid spruce top and flame maple back and sides as the original design for a strong attack with plenty of brilliance. The hand-painted inlaid pickguard is on full display. And the Dove is outfitted with an LR Baggs VTC pickup system for live performance. Now's your chance to find out why the Dove is one of the world's most beloved acoustics. Now Playing: Gibson Bozeman Factory Tour Ren Ferguson on Gibson Acoustic Classic construction The construction of the Dove stays true to what made the original Dove one of the most popular dreadnought acoustic guitars available. Doves boast a 25.5" scale length, which is uncommon among Gibson guitars. By lengthening the distance the string travels from bridge saddle to nut, the guitar attains a stronger punch in the attack and a bit more of a cutting sound. And the neck of the Dove is set with the historically accurate dovetail neck joint and held in place with traditional hide glue. Specific tonewood complement Gibson's first square-shoulder acoustic guitar, the Hummingbird, was built with a mahogany neck, back, and sides. But when Gibson set out to design its follow-up, the Dove, they strove to give the guitar a more authoritative voice that would work well when accompanying a vocalist. Maple was chosen for the Dove's back, sides, and neck because of its clear top end, fast-responding lows, and string-to-string definition. This pairing soon caught on, and today there are many guitars that are built this way. LR Baggs electronics The LR Baggs VTC system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's more stable and durable than standard ribbon-type pickups. Its streamlined design enhances coupling between the pickup and guitar for improved sensitivity and a robust, natural, and dynamic sound. Discreet volume and tone controls mounted just inside the soundhole give this Dove powerful amplification without detracting from its natural beauty. For a plugged-in tone you can trust onstage and in the studio, Sweetwater guitarists recommend the Gibson Dove.
