When Lunastone set out to design the Three Stage Rocket, they consulted Danish guitarist Soren Andersen, who’s played with several of your favorite guitarists including Joe Bonamassa, Dave Mustaine, Glenn Hughes and more. The idea was to capture a sound that was in Andersen’s head—we’ve all been there, no easy task—and the mission was a resounding success.
Based on Lunastone’s Big Fella transparent drive platform, the Three Stage Rocket features a refined gain structure that still delivers all the touch sensitivity and clipping diode-free signal path, utilizing many cascading gain stages for the ultimate in tube amp-like sound and feel.
Two drive modes are available on the Three Stage Rocket—OD1 and OD2—with OD1 exhibiting a lower-gain, glassy overdrive that melds seamlessly with anything before or after it. OD2 gives your signal a little more girth, doubling down on crunch while still staying focused and refined.
A new footswitch lets you toggle between both OD modes without having to bend over and mess with the toggle switch, and you can set the individual gains for each mode so you don’t have to fuss with any weird volume or gain mismatches.
The Big Fella’s sweet-sounding independently switchable boost makes an appearance, giving you 15 decibels of pure boost with a sound so good you may never turn it off.
Unlike its smaller brother, the Three Stage Rocket contains a toggle that lets you switch the order in which you hear the drive and Boost; players can now place the Boost before the Drive side for the ultimate in tonal saturation.
Running the Boost after the drive circuits lets your amp know who’s boss, as the combined gain will twist the arm of your preamp and make it say uncle, coaxing out levels of sustain and overdrive you never knew your amp had.
