Far too often, companies tweak a couple part values and add a knob to an existing circuit, then call it a deluxe model. For SolidGoldFX, this simply will not do. The Zeta DLX earns its deluxe designation by fully blowing out the circuit to a double-wide form factor with tons of bells and whistles.
Eschewing the standard volume, gain, and tone configuration, the DLX adds five (!!!) new toggle switches and a footswitchable boost circuit. The boost side is a JFET-equipped gain machine, and players can use it before or after the Zeta portion. Set before, the boost slams into the Zeta and extracts all the saturation you could ever want. Set after, it hits the front end of your amp with the Zeta’s slightly-greasy sagged-out drive character.
Further toggle switches let you fine-tine the bass response and midrange, as well as offering new clipping arrangements to overhaul the character of the drive on the fly. The boost side even gets its share of toggle switches, featuring a three-way tone toggle to call an audible on the boost sound, as well as its low-end response.
When you open up the Zeta DLX, you will find a trimpot that’s used to set the overall gain of the drive channel. For you gainiacs that just need more power, the trimpot access is a welcome addition that will put the screws to your amp in a major way.
