Designed in collaboration with Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails), the Make Noise Strega semi-modular synthesizer and signal processor takes its name from the Italian word for “witch.” It’s a fitting moniker for an enchanting, esoteric instrument that is ripe for casting sonic spells! Featuring the same form factor as the Make Noise 0-COAST and 0-CTRL, the Strega is a desktop unit that encourages the kind of uninhibited aural explorations that Alessandro embraces to generate moving, textural soundscapes that evoke emotional connections. The Strega comprises three main sections: an external input and preamp; an internal sound generator; and a Time/Filter Experiment section, with time, decay, absorb, and filter controls to degrade, augment, and twist your sounds by adding phantom tones, skittering pulses and clicks, and undulating noise. Furthermore, the Strega is equipped with numerous touch plates for physically interacting with the instrument, turning your body into a conductor to alter the routing of Strega’s many parameters. Something musically wicked is sure to come when you get lost in the bewitching haze of the Make Noise Strega!




Multifaceted synth voice and external input
Even before you hit the Time/Filter Experiment section, Strega exhibits a unique sonic character. Its voice section is capable of producing straight-ahead synth sounds, from clean triangle tones to gristly synth bass, and much more. Strega’s voice is multifaceted and, at times, inscrutable, incorporating elements such as wave folding, pulse width modulation, and randomization mapped to curiously titled controls, such as tonic, tones, and activation. Additionally, an external input and preamp allow you to use Strega as a signal processor for transforming any sound source with its bevy of madcap modulators.


Mysterious and unpredictable manipulations
Strega's Time/Filter Experiment section is the cauldron in which you can pour your raw sounds and brew them into potent sonic potions. Mysterious and unpredictable, this section goes far beyond typical signal processors by featuring highly interactive elements that move and breathe, resulting in the creation of organic, evolving sounds — from murky drones to crystalline chirps and abrasive clangor.

With its semi-modular architecture, the Strega is hardwired for instant and satisfying play. However, to get the most from the device, synthesists at Sweetwater advise you to unleash your patch cables and take advantage of the Strega’s many routing options. Moreover, Strega boasts numerous touch bridges and gateways, fostering even more interaction by allowing you to modulate patches by hand and in real time to create more movement and dynamism.
