Lunastone’s philosophy has always been about providing amp-like tones in a relatively compact size. What makes Lunastone’s take different from every other “amp-like” drive tone is that it relies on the same concept of tube distortion: several cascading gain stages provide natural, open distortion with only a hint of compression. This is where the TrueOverDrive 2 comes in.
The TOD2 is based around the architecture of another of Lunastone’s pedals, the Wise Guy. Picking up where that circuit left off, the TOD2 is a searing-hot amp-like dirt box that seeks to replicate a red-lined amp of no particular type, giving you burly amp-like tone that melds with your existing tone rather than creating a classic amp’s sound in parallel with your own.
Just like a real amp, the TOD2 is extremely sensitive to pick attack and dynamics. When you dig in, the TOD2 roars, and when you play nice, it plays nice with you, too. It’s about as amp-like as solid-state gets.
The tone of the TOD2 adds a soft mid-focus with the transparency you’d expect from a pedal that has the same design principles as an amp. Plug it in and buckle up.
