Great tube amps consist of figurative gobs of gain colliding with one another to product overdrive and saturation. The gain builds and builds until your signal feels the weight and breaks up. In most great amps, you'll find one thing in common: tubes. You know what you won't find in them? Clipping diodes.
Luckily for us, the Lunastone drive pedals—dubbed True OverDrive—accomplish their gain structures in this exact way, providing several cascading gain stages with the only natural compression occurring as a result of the inherent parts. Zero diodes, all tone. Clipping diodes intentionally cut off the best parts of your waveform.
The Lunastone Wise Guy strays from the pack by relieving the signal path of any and all diodes for a much more natural sounding response and feel. The end result is a touch-sensitive gain dynamo that blends well with any other pedals you might have.
Unlike its brother, the Big Fella, the Wise Guy exhibits a more American amp-like tone, as a transparent clean platform, which will only enhance the pedals before it, and punish the ones after it, if that’s your thing.
The independently-switchable Boost circuit contains a 15-decibel tonal blast that sounds so good, you might just leave it on all the time. It sounds that good. However, when you combine the two circuits, all hell breaks loose. The Wise Guy hits your amp with a Chicago typewriter’s worth of ammo and you may just experience tonal nirvana.
