And PRS has customized every dimension of this guitar, including a 1/16"-thinner top and 1/8"-thicker back for warmer tone, as well as a 24.6" scale length. Five-way switching and a unique pickup combination, with a Narrowfield middle pickup between two narrow 408 humbuckers, give the PRS 20th Anniversary Private Stock guitar a distinct tonal range compared with any other PRS guitar.

Completing their first PRS Private Stock guitar on April 19, 1996, the PRS Private Stock program was created to continue the tradition of a small team of expert luthiers making fewer guitars with an emphasis on detail and customization. This PRS 20th Anniversary Private Stock guitar embodies the spirit of the Private Stock program, with unique body dimensions, electronics, and appointments that combine to create a captivating guitar to behold and an amazing instrument to play. In the words of Paul Reed Smith himself, "When I played the prototypes for this model, they reminded me very much of what I would be making if I was still in a two-person shop."
Top-shelf woods and materials from the PRS Private Stock collection
The hand-selected East Coast curly maple tops for the 20th Anniversary Private Stock guitars, according to PRS, were selected from two of their all-time best batches of maple they have received. African ribbon mahogany is used for the back, with a mahogany neck and Madagascar rosewood fretboard bound with curly maple. A mother-of-pearl "20th Anniversary" banner adorns the headstock. Crushed abalone inlays feature mother-of-pearl outlines.
Unique dimensions and pickup configuration
The PRS 20th Anniversary Private Stock was designed to have a distinct voice compared with the existing PRS lineup. The maple top is 1/16" thinner than typical, and the mahogany back is 1/8" thicker, resulting in a richer and deeper tonality. And the custom 24.6" scale length was selected as having the optimal harmonic-richness factor. Two Narrow 408 pickups, favorites among the PRS fans at Sweetwater, combine with a Narrowfield middle pickup and five-way switching for a wide sonic range with exceptional punch.
