Professionals in recording studios use extremely high-end all-in-one processors that generally include preamp, compressor and EQ. It was from this multi-tool that Diamond derived the inspiration for the venerable Diamond Compressor, an exceptional tone tool guitarists worldwide have been using for years and years.
Now, Diamond has taken everything from the Compressor and stuffed it into the Comp Jr. It's a no-feature-left-behind affair and it packs all the same amazing tone into a smaller, more pedalboard-friendly package.
The Comp. Jr is an optical compressor, meaning it uses a vactrol (LED/photoresistor) for ultra-smooth attack. This signal is fed into a tilt EQ, usually sound on super-high-end hi-fi systems. Rolling the EQ knob back boosts lows and cuts highs, while rolling it up cuts lows and boosts highs. That said, there is no "bad" spot anywhere on the EQ knob—it's almost like a genre selector. Move it back for smoky jazz compression and roll it up for jangly chicken-pickin'.
Like all high-end compressors, the Diamond Comp Jr. features an innovative meter system. The LED illuminates to red when the circuitry is being pushed to clipping, which helps ensure optimum compression settings when placed after drives and boosts.
