If there’s one thing that’s missing from the modern compressor world, it’s EQ. I know what you’re thinking—why would a compressor need an EQ? Well, friends, Rockett’s iQ answers this question for you: by running the EQ before the compression circuit, the compressor will emphasize and then compress these specific bands at levels you set.
The iQ’s compression engine is a finely-tweaked example of the circuit family, with pre-set attack and release amounts expertly dialed in beforehand. Your controls are Volume and Blend, where Volume exists to offset the jump in volume caused by an increase in wet-dry ratio. Other than that, Blend is all you get, and Blend is all you need.
The six bands present in the EQ section are 100Hz, 200Hz, 400hZ, 800Hz, 1.5KHz and 3.2KHz. Because these are placed before the compression engine, you can choose just how much of each band you want compressed, for a fully immersive compression experience. This is extremely handy for bass players oor players who assigned to strictly “rhythm” or “lead” roles, letting you accentuate and then squish the frequency ranges you most likely find yourself in, while lending a smooth gloss to the rest.
Each band on the iQ contains an 18dB boost or cut, with center being flat, for an ultra-powerful push in whichever frequency band you like. With the Blend control all the way down, the iQ turns into a juicy EQ pedal with a volume boost as well. Viva versatility!
