Top-shelf tonewoods deliver top-shelf sound
When Martin built the Model America 1, they used nothing but top-shelf tonewoods. Its top is made of Adirondack spruce — considered by many to be the Holy Grail of top woods for a steel-string acoustic. Adirondack is prized for its rich fullness of tone, as well as the layer of complex overtones it imparts. This species of spruce is also renowned for its high volume ceiling — no matter how hard you strum it, your Model America 1 will retain all of its tone and clarity. The back and sides of this instrument are made of Sycamore, which frames its already breathtaking tone with loads of punch and a clean, melodic sensation. A certified cherry neck lends extra articulation and sustain to your playing.




Modified low-oval neck for smooth playability

This instrument features a modified low-oval neck profile with a High-Performance taper. Its slim profile is easy on your hand, allowing you to play extended sessions in comfort. The Model America 1 is based on Martin's legendary D-18. This gives it a "just right" tonality that's just as useful in the studio as it is on stage. Just ask any recording engineer that's been in the business for a couple decades: the D-18 has an uncanny ability to set itself into any mix perfectly, with a minimum of processing. Sure, that jumbo-body rosewood guitar looks great, but you'll be rolling off low frequencies and carefully adjusting compressors to prevent it from getting too boomy or indistinct in the final mix. Just as with a D-18, when you point your favorite small-diaphragm condenser mic at the Model America 1's 12th fret, you'll get a sound that practically mixes itself.
