VFE Pedals Alpha Dog Vintage Distortion

VFE’s take on the classic LM308N-based distortion pushes the circuit to limits never before reached. The Alpha Dog certainly earns its moniker by providing its users with an unprecedented level of control. No longer are fans of the classic circuit bound to its limitations; the Alpha Dog really fleshes the classic formula out beyond normal levels of diversity.
Never again will you feel confined by words like “distortion” and “overdrive,” as the Alpha Dog stretches the potential of the classic circuit far beyond its intended feature set. In addition to classic Level, Gain and Filter controls, there are three more—double the controls—for a total of six. The three new controls are Fat, Hard and Soft.
Fat is exactly what it sounds like—a thickener. Turning it up increases the low end and also the gain. Hard sets the gain characteristics of the post-gain stage and Soft sets the characteristics of the op-amp. With both Hard and Soft set to noon, no clipping is added to either stage.
The Alpha Dog is one of two VFE pedals that utilizes extremely low noise resistors from Precision Resistive Products. These are ultra-high-end audiophile quality resistors that really decrease the noise floor in high-gain products like this.

TrueSoft Bypass Footswitch - True bypass relay with effect-side FET switch


Variable HCC - allows you to fine tune the harmonics, compression, and clipping character of your tone.


Extended Headroom - A simple voltage inverter circuit was used to effectively turn 9V into 18V. No need for special power supplies.


DualMode Switching - DualMode Switching can convert the footswitch into momentary operation. To use, wait 5 seconds, then press the sequence tap+tap+hold until LED flashes


USA Made PCBs - Our circuit boards are made in the USA by Advanced Circuits (large PCB runs) or OSH Park (small PCB runs).


Alpha Pots - The GAIN, FAT, HARD, and SOFT controls are built in the USA with custom-designed tapers specifically for the Alpha Dog.
